Which poster size should you choose? The complete size guide (30x40, A2, 50x70, A1)

Choosing the right poster size is an essential step to successfully decorate your walls. A beautiful image can lose all its impact if it is poorly sized relative to the available space. At Cassili-home, the available formats vary from one design to another: four main formats — 30×40 cm, A2, 50×70 cm and A1 — are complemented, on a selection of models, by two large formats, 61×91 cm and 70×100 cm, with 70×100 cm offered only as a poster. Always check the options offered on the product page of the poster you choose.

The formats available at Cassili-home

Cassili-home offers four main formats, complemented by two large formats on a selection of models:

  • 30×40 cm — compact size, ideal for small spaces, shelves, desks, or wall compositions with multiple posters.
  • A2 (42×59.4 cm) — very versatile intermediate size, perfect for a bedroom, entryway, or hallway.
  • 50×70 cm — generous and impactful size, ideal above a sofa or double bed.
  • A1 (59.4×84.1 cm) — large format, available depending on the model, to create a focal point in a living room or dining room.
  • 61×91 cm — XXL large format available on a selection of designs, suited to large walls and living spaces.
  • 70×100 cm — XXL large format available only as a poster on a selection of designs, for maximum wall presence.

Adapting the format to the room and wall

For a main living room wall above a sofa, favor the 50×70 cm or A1 for strong visual impact. For a bedroom above the bed, the A2 or 50×70 cm offer an excellent balance. For an entryway or hallway, the A2 or 30×40 cm fit in without overcrowding the space.

A general rule: the poster should occupy about two-thirds of the width of the furniture or wall space below. Our Architecture collection offers particularly impactful visuals in large format.

Creating a wall gallery with multiple formats

Mixing several formats allows you to create dynamic and personalized wall compositions. Lay the posters on the floor before hanging to test different arrangements. For example, pair a 50×70 cm central poster with two 30×40 cm on each side for a balanced gallery.

Keep a regular spacing between each poster — generally between 5 and 10 cm. Discover our complete collection of wall posters to compose your gallery.

Poster or framed: which finish to choose?

Depending on the model and the size, our posters are offered in a Poster or Framed finish. The exact options available are shown on each product page. The Poster version offers more flexibility to choose your own frame. The Framed version is ideal when it is offered, for a ready-to-hang result.

For Mediterranean interiors, the light wood frame blends perfectly with natural materials. To learn more, read our article on rattan, linen, and natural fibers.

Errors to avoid when choosing the format

  • Choosing a format that is too small — a 30×40 cm alone on a large living room wall gets completely lost. Always go up one size from what you imagine.
  • Not measuring before buying — take the dimensions of the wall and the furniture below before ordering. Simulate with kraft paper if needed.
  • Ignoring hanging height — the center of the poster should be about 145-150 cm from the floor, at eye level.
  • Mixing formats without logic — in a wall gallery, a dominant central format flanked by smaller formats creates a balanced composition.

FAQ — Poster format

Which poster format to choose for a living room?

For a living room, favor a 50×70 cm or A1 above the sofa. The poster should occupy about two-thirds of the sofa’s width. If you prefer a composition, pair a 50×70 cm central poster with two 30×40 cm on each side.

Which poster format to choose for a bedroom?

The A2 (42×59.4 cm) or 50×70 cm are ideal above a double bed. For a single bed or a side wall, the 30×40 cm is an excellent compromise.

What is the difference between Poster and Framed?

The Poster is the poster alone, to frame according to your taste. The Framed comes with a light wood frame ready to hang, ideal for an immediate result consistent with Cassili-home’s Mediterranean aesthetic.

How to create a wall gallery with several Cassili posters?

Pair a 50×70 cm central poster with two 30×40 cm on each side. First lay the posters on the floor, keep 5 to 10 cm between each, and align the horizontal centers for a harmonious composition.
